Under Cali Convention 2008 we decided to open an Origami contest to design a spectacled bear. The competition is open to any person anywhere in the world and be known as


"THE RIGHT OF JUCUMARIS"


Jucumari (Tremarctos ornatus) is the name of the beautiful Indian spectacled bear, only ursid endemic to the mountains of South America. The Jucumari is in serious danger of extinction, so this competition apart from encouraging the creation of a superb example of origami, also seeks to encourage their preservation and in some ways to help humans who struggle to save his imminent demise Bear .

The competition is as special guest judge Mr Bernie Payton fee in recognition of excellence in the folding and its long years of work in protecting the Jucumari.


A. CONTEST

1. It will have nine months to design and present the model, ie from December 1, 2008 until August 31, 2009.

2. Each person should do their own research on this species and select the issues you consider important for the design.

3. Since the decision of the winning models will be virtually, has opened a photo album on Flickr for participants to put there all the photos they deem necessary for a fair evaluation of their model. 6. Participation is free without any restrictions.

7. The models are recovered on the following aspects: originality, similarity to the real model, aesthetic beauty, expressiveness, clean lines and proper selection of the paper. The creators must submit appropriate photos which underpin these concepts. This means that the selection of the winner will be done via photographs. Therefore the quality of them can influence the selection criteria (though not a photography contest.)

8. Month to month or as needed will present an account of the status of activity to inform and encourage participation.

B. FOLDING MODEL AND DIAGRAMS
9. Although not a requirement for the contest, if it is desirable to send a folding model to Cali to be exposed during the convention. Shipping charges are paid by the operator and the folding model becomes part of ASVOR who will act as depositary. Models should be sent to the following address:

10. It is understood the non-profit use of models, both to promote itself as origami for conservation efforts the Jucumari.

11. Nor is the pattern submission requirement, but if you prefer you can send to my address: eric_madrigal_cr@hotmail.com to be published in the book of Colombia 2009 Convention or in a book separate but attached to Convention itself.

JUDGES The judges will deliberate from September 1, 2009 to October 31, 2009.
The winner selection will be done in four stages: 1 st
. Stage: Each judge will select 50% of the models received. It makes statistics and 50% better value passes to the next stage.
2 ª. Stage: each model is qualified with a list qualities. It makes statistics and spends 50% more qualified.
Stage 3: The rate for the remaining models and selected the three best qualified.
Stage 4: The vote for the three best qualified and removed the first, second and third place.

AWARD 1. The winners will be announced during the closing ceremony of the convention of Origami Colombia 2009 in the city of Cali.
2. Prizes will be sent to winners anywhere in the world so certified.
3. Will be awarded the top three spots.
4. All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.
5. Those participants who have submitted physical models and / or diagrams will receive a free copy of the book of the XIII Convention Origami Colombia 2009.
6. The prize for first place is a gold filigree pendant with indigenous craft techniques of Colombia. A goldsmith was hired to design the pendant with the figure of Jucumari. Be certified as both the artisan craft shop that produces the work. In addition a copy of 3 books of the Conventions (2007, 2008 and 2009) and a packet of papers made in Colombia.
7. The second place winner will receive a copy of 2 books of the Conventions (2008 and 2009) paper made in Colombia and third place 1 book of the Convention (2009) and a packet of papers made in Colombia.

As part of the Origami Convention Colombia 2008 in Cali, a new Origami challenge to design a Spectacled Bear was created. This challenge will be open for participation by everyone from around the world, and will be called:


“THE SPECTACLED BEAR WAR”


Jucumari (Tremarctos ornatus) is the indigenous name of the beautiful Spectacled Bear, native of the mountains of South America. The Jucumari is in serious danger of extinction. So this contest intends not only to stimulate the creation of a magnificent Origami model, but also to encourage the protection of the Jucumari and help organizations that are fighting to save this bear from imminent demise.
Bernie Peyton will be the special guest of this contest, participating as an honorary judge, in recognition of his excellence in folding but also for his several years of work to protect the Jucumari. ( http://eco-origami.com/bernie/Home.html )


A. Rules of the Challenge
1. Timeframe: 9 months to design and present a model, from December 1st, 2008 until August 31st, 2009.
2. Each creator should perform the necessary research about this species and select an aspect considered important for the design.
3. Considering the fact that the decision of winners will be conducted online, a Flickr album for pictures had been created. The participants will be able to upload all pictures that they deem necessary for a fair evaluation of their model. Uploading the CP of the model will be considered essential. Registration will be required to participate in this challenge. Address of the page:

6. Participation is free and there will be no restrictions.
7. The models will be recognized based on the following aspects: originality, realism compared to actual animal, aesthetic beauty, expressiveness, clean lines and proper selection of paper. The creators should send adequate pictures that express such concepts. Note that this means that the selection of the winner will be done based on the pictures. Therefore, their quality may impact the results (although this is not a photography contest).
8. On a monthly basis, or as needed, an overview of the status of the activities will be communicated in order to inform and encourage participation.

B. FINAL MODEL AND DIAGRAMS
9. Although not a mandatory requirement for the contest, it will be desirable that you send the final model to Cali, Colombia, for the exhibition during the convention. The shipping costs should be the responsibility of the creator, and the model will become part of the permanent collection of ASVOR. The models should be sent to the following address:

10. The model might be used for non-commercial purposes, either to promote Origami as art or for campaigns for Jucumari protection.
11. Presentation of diagrams will not be required; however, if you wish to do so, please sent it to: eric_madrigal_cr@hotmail.com . In this way, it may be published at the Convention Colombia 2009 annual collection or on a convention booklet.

C. THE JUDGES
Judges will deliberate from September 1st, 2009 until October 31st, 2009.
The winners will be selected in four phases:
1st Phase: Each judge will select 50% of the models received. Based on the best average, the 50% best placed models will move on to the next phase.
2nd Phase: Each model will be assessed based on the list of criteria. The average will be calculated, and the top 50% will move on to the next phase.
3rd Phase: A voting will be conducted to select the top three best models.
4th Phase: A vote of the top three will be conducted in order to select the first, second and third place winners.

D. THE PRIZE
1. The winners of the challenge will be announced during the closing ceremonies of the Origami Convention Colombia 2009, in Cali city.
2. The prizes will be sent to the winners to any country via certified mail.
3. Prizes will be awarded to the three best places.
4. All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.
5. Those participants who had sent the final models and/or diagrams will receive a complimentary copy of the Convention Colombia 2009 annual collection.
6. The first place prize will be a golden filigree made of indigenous craft techniques of Colombia. A plaque will feature a picture of Jucumari. Both the handicraft workshop and craftsman that produced the work will be certified. In addition, a copy of the 3 convention annual collections (2007, 2008 and 2009) and a pack of papers made in Colombia will be offered.
7. The second place will receive a copy of 2 convention annual collections (2008 and 2009) and pack of papers made in Colombia. The third place will receive one convention annual collection (2009) and a pack of papers made in Colombia.
